Is hydraulics the reason they are so noisy ?
- akiselev 9y agoI believe the noise is coming from the small gasoline engine used for power generation.
- Animats 9y agoThere was a subcontract to develop a small, light, quieter, variable-speed Diesel power plant for the thing. Unclear what happened there, but it doesn't seem to have been used with the LS3. (The US military is all-Diesel. One fuel is used in everything from generators to aircraft. Gasoline tankers have no place on the modern battlefield, where there are no secure rear areas. The smallest standard military generator, a 2KW unit, weighs 138 pounds.[1] There's no suitable off the shelf powerplant.)
