You want to tell feminists what sexism is?
My advice: don't.
Listen.
- humanrebar 9y agoIsn't this whole thread about not letting people talk over you? Only listening and not being able to contribute back to what should be a conversation? Everyone has the right to express frustration, I think.
- Ensorceled 9y agoYou missed the point entirely. This thread is specifically and pointedly about men speaking over top women, especially when there is a power differential (panelist vs. moderator in this case). Not about the general problem of needing to speak up for yourself.
- TheGirondin 9y agoExactly. The other poster needs to just shut up.
- pokemongoaway 9y agoHow is it that you get to decide what this is about by interpreting the article with a certain slant, and then use that slant to say he's not discussing actually 'your' point?
- Ensorceled 9y agoSlant? I read the Facebook post. Curious, what did you think her original point was?
- anc84 9y agoListen, you don't understand. Feminists are the sole authority of sexism and thus, if someone proclaims themselves as feminist, you better listen and accept their truths. It might be uncomfortable but you are just supporting patriachy and misogyny if you don't stop thinking with your own misguided, sexist brain.
- RHSeeger 9y agoPoe's law? I honestly can't tell.
- dang 9y agoPosting inflammatory comments on divisive topics is trolling. We ban accounts that do that, so please don't do it again. Others have been doing this in the thread as well, but you've repeatedly posted uncivilly to HN in the past and we've warned you more than once. If you don't want to be banned, you need to fix this.
- jrs95 9y agoNot anymore, apparently. Unless you're a member of a special victim club, you're either to agree or shut up. The toxicity of the politics surrounding all of this stuff is incredibly counter productive.
- RHSeeger 9y agoPeople looking for bias can be just as wrong as people ignoring it. Examples of people claiming x-ism where it doesn't exist abound. Yes, sexism/racism/classism/etc all exist and are all problems, but that doesn't mean every unfortunate circumstance is an instance of it. When you believe someone is wrong, it's (generally) not a bad thing to try to explain why you believe they're wrong. You may not convince them, but that doesn't make you a bad person (as long as you're willing to listen/try to understand) when they do likewise. That being said, the circumstances described in the do appear to show sexism. I enjoyed the read.
- pokemongoaway 9y agoWhy is it not sexism? OK, I'll bite... Because he has a wife who he's fucked and kids he's created. Or no, you're right, he hates ALL women! If this were the court of law, then the charge would not hold.
- RHSeeger 9y ago>> the circumstances described in the do appear to show sexism > Why is it not sexism? I feel like maybe you didn't actually read what I said, since what I said was that it did appear to show sexism. The first paragraph of my response was addressing the person that said (effectively) that you should never disagree with a feminist about what is or isn't sexism (which is what I disagreed with).
