To my mind this is ludicrous. Rand() is useful for many common educational assignments. It's also useful for many applications which want pseudo-random numbers for purposes unrelated to security.
I recently needed some pseudo-randoms, and discovered that I now have to stick a bunch of boilerplate in the code to obtain them. Is there really a difference between me sticking the boilerplate in vs having a function called rand() that does the boilerplate for me?
