- kzisme 9y agoI bought this book a few weeks ago because of how interesting Bell Labs was - great recommendation!
- sizzzzlerz 9y agoI saw this and came to make the same recommendation. I just finished this book and it is excellent. As an EE, the chapters on the discovery of the transistor by Brattain and Bardeen up to the experiment where their prototype starts actually amplifying an input signal for the first time represents such a seminal moment in the history of the world. Arguably, it is the most important invention of the 20th century.
- Akarnani 9y agoBob Lucky, who was one of the directors of research at Bell wrote a number of books and this one is a fun read. https://www.amazon.com/Lucky-Strikes-Again-Foibles-Engineers/dp/0780304330/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1496759352&sr=1-1 https://www.amazon.com/Lucky-Strikes-Again-Foibles-Engineers...
- s73ver 9y agoJust finished it a few weeks ago. One of the better things it does, I think, is show how so many of the people and innovations were intertwined. In truth, getting all of that co-mingling and cross pollination among so many talented individuals is probably one of the Labs' greatest innovations.
