Today this is true more than ever with easy access to tutorials, training videos, etc. What people really need post-high school is a mentor who either is willing to take them under their wing or give them guidance on how to pursue their career. For me, I feel if I had discovered the many mailing lists and irc channels that learned through in high school instead of college I could have saved five years of my time.
