  Leftists will also defend keeping vacant lots vacant, due to the possibility that their development would cause gentrification, or that they should be banked for some unspecified future date when the money is found to build public housing. It seems that both the most cynical capitalists and the most bleeding-heart leftists value abandonment above all other uses of urban property, and the world is increasingly split between them. The future is not looking good.
