Asus, HP, and Lenovo are all planning to introduce Snapdragon Mobile PC systems
at some unspecified time in the future, for some unspecified price.
In other news, today at the Vaporware Expo every computer manufacturer announced plans to release a new device featuring unspecified hardware at some unspecified time in the future for an unspecified price.
- johnhattan 9y agoMy first impression was "Oh great. The only thing we'll ever see from this is a bunch of luxurious overpriced Surface-branded hardware." At least if they're sharing the spec with other manufacturers, we'll possibly get some reasonably priced hardware. Myself, I'm crossing my fingers for some Raspberry Pi-class machines that'll work with this.
- my123 9y agoIt's publicly leaked and runs on any UEFI+ACPI ARM64 hardware.
- wyldfire 9y agoCan you refer us to more details?

- dis-sys 9y agothat just made my day! wondering what hacks are required to boot and run windows server on a phone.
- bobsam 9y agoWell if it is even remotely possible, you can probably find someone at XDA already working on it.

- paulftw 9y agoAny threats to Intel's (almost?) monopoly on laptops/desktops is a good thing.
- phoenix3200 9y agoIt really is just a threat though. These companies use the appearance of a competitor to extract cheaper pricing from their suppliers. If anyone is expecting better than Netbook performance, they're probably out of their mind.
- paulftw 9y agoYes, but how many people really need better than netbook performance? Most knowledge workers only need email, excel and web browser. SaaS is eating desktop. Modern smartphone is capable of 3d games and even VR. Dropping prices temporarily until a newcomer is strangled is something we've heard of in the past, but this time the competitor has a huge and growing mobile market, so the threat and lower prices are likely to stay around for a long time.
- mbel 9y ago> Yes, but how many people really need better than netbook performance? With current super bloated state of the web, Electron apps and other disasters? Probably all of them.
- albeva 9y agoCompetition yes, but I'd prefer from AMD rather than a different CPU architecture.
- paulftw 9y agoPutting out two fires simultaneously means fewer resources are spent on each individual one. I could even fantasize about a scenario where Intel: "if you launch an ARM laptop we'll raise our prices" Microsoft: "fine, we will switch to AMD"

- cwyers 9y agoThey've done live demos of this on actual hardware, just hardware too ugly to ship.
- andrewf 9y agoYeah, yawn, I've been reading this every month for the past 18 months. Tell me where and when I can buy something.
