Being tough on drugs affects innocent people as well. Just take a look at Mexico.
I think most solutions to societal issues should be sensitive to regional economic and educational factors. People will go to great lengths to break the law when their economic wellbeing is threatened.
- axaxs 9y agoWell, I'm from one of the least educated states. And I can see the drug users around me every trip I take. I've never been harassed or robbed, but it's still sad to see. But the new idea of needle exchanges and heroin prescriptions are sickening. The governmnent should not be conducive to this behavior. We, as Americans, should demand better. And as long as those who make decent money, like me, or those unaffected, like most of the west coast, project their ideas without experience at this problem, the worse it will get.
- distances 9y agoNeedle exchange programs definitely work. It's no use to be "tough on drugs" and just get slapped with an AIDS or hepatitis epidemic in addition to the drug epidemic. Needle exchanges are very common in Europe, it's not some idea projected from the west coast.
