Does XeTeX support microtype these days? It is important if you want "best-in-the-world output" to PDF.
- ibn-alfatal 9y agoNope, LuaTeX does a better job and even that is limited as compared to pdfTeX. See http://mirrors.ctan.org/macros/latex/contrib/microtype/microtype.pdf http://mirrors.ctan.org/macros/latex/contrib/microtype/micro... page 7, Table 1.
- petters 9y agoYeah, I used pdftex for my thesis in 2012 for this reason. When I use Tex now I use Luatex as it also gives good results but with easier font management.
- kiriakasis 9y agoIf i read correctly it does not say "powered by XeTeX" but "derived by a XeTeX Implementation"
- pkgwilliams 9y agoRight. The hope is that the easier development process will make it easier to add fancy features like microtypography ... but for me the real prize is HTML output that doesn't suck, so that's going to be the focus of my work.
- petters 9y agoI copied my quote from the linked page. You are likely right, though.

- tuomosipola 9y agoApparently they currently support protrusion for XeTeX. I use XeTeX for its font, language and Unicode support but it would be nice to get fully covered microtypography there.
