There are legitimate complaints about JavaScript and Node, but to dismiss it like this is just silly. It's a genuinely impressive piece of technology, one that support rapid development of prototypes as well as scaling those prototypes to production ready services. It's a technology that's well proven and fairly easy to work with, and unless you're working on massive scales, the performance is just fine.
I'm not saying it's necessarily better than the alternatives, but dismissing it out of hand like this bespeaks a close-mindedness that is a bad feature in a productive developer.
- hliyan 9y agoAs another developer with 10 years of C++ experience, this attitude bothers me too. There are clearly domains where scripting languages are inappropriate (e.g. HFT), but that's no reason to blame the entire language. I made the switch to JavaScript about two years ago and I find the language quite pleasant and versatile (as long as its not abused or cargo-culted).
- holydude 9y agoAre you talking about ES5 or ES6 ? Because working with ES5 is anything but pleasant.
