That's literally the opposite direction I was going with "you either have it or you don't". Do you really think that the type of person that is suited for connecting extremely disparate information is at all common? Sure, anyone can hop into a job at an established company with established tools and documentation and write glue code, but to me that is very different than the type of person that genuinely has a talent for software. Being able to memorize bullshit or excel in academia means nothing.
