The Road to Passenger 3: Technology Preview 2
- jpcx01 16y agoArticle is an amazingly good example of how to sell software. Even open source projects need to sell themselves, and these guys have it nailed.
- TrevorBurnham 16y agoIt's disconcerting that they call their simple watchdog "extremely lightweight" when it's 150-200K. By comparison, the original Macintosh had 128K of RAM total. I have nothing but respect for the Phusion engineers, and I eagerly await Passenger 3, but I'm curious: Why does it take over 100,000 bytes of code to 1) watch a process and 2) restart that process if it dies?
- heresy 16y agoAs meaningless as rss/vsize is on Linux, the "supervise" process from DJB's daemontools weighs in at ~ 340k/1628k on a 32-bit system. DJB is not known for producing bloat :) I think you'd be hard pressed to go below that number.
