Softbank's CEO has two, personal, areas of interest he is willing to bet a lot on: IoT and robotics. NVidia is a very competent hardware manufacturer and is investing a lot in deep learning. Softbank has telephony networks and robots manufacture. It does make some sense.

  Yes, they design hardware, not sure I would call them a manufacturer.
