Ask HN: Disruptive implications of Li-Glass Battery?
I know there's still a lot of controversy and speculation around the tech; however, let's assume Dr. Goodenough's (how awesome is that last name?) claims are verified.
I would like to ask the HN community to help me game out the cultural and financial implications of Li-glass tech. I'll go first. IMO the implications to, say, the auto industry are staggering. The range issue would be fully solved. In fact, if the claims are true, electric cars could potentially have superior range. Couple that with reduced maintenance requirements, relative to IC engines, and I don't see why anyone would even want carbon-powered vehicles anymore.
