There are many who claim the title of Christian and are no more Christian than any true-blue Atheist, Buddhist, Moslem, etc. The other "problem" is the commonly promulgated belief that if one does not subscribe to the view of anthropogenic climate change then one has to be a climate change denier. This belief has just as much stupidity and bigotry as saying that the earth is flat. Your "peril" is not being able to look at things with a much more nuanced view and actually recognise the big and little differences between people.
