Certainly not if one of your main concerns is the privacy of your message content. WhatsApp uses the Signal protocol; Telegram uses its own homebrew encryption protocol that has not been well vetted.
- steevenwee 9y agoAFAIK Telegram is banned in a number of countries for the reason of being secure and not letting authorities monitor what people are messaging about.
- KindDragon 9y agoThat was before WhatsApp started using Signal protocol.
- steevenwee 9y agoHow whatsup using any protocol relevant to telegram being banned?
- Niten 9y agoThat's not evidence that its encryption algorithm is well designed or secure.
- steevenwee 9y agoit is circumstantial evidence. Isn't it should be a red flag if one messenger is prohibited in a country with an authoritarian regime, and the other is not? I mean that's enough for my social messaging. If I'd need to transfer some top secret information, I would use neither of them.
- Niten 9y ago> Isn't it should be a red flag if one messenger is prohibited in a country with an authoritarian regime, and the other is not? No.
- steevenwee 9y agoIf you want to use less information than available for your decisions, it's your choice.
