Unfortunately many voters have no concept of liberty and what it means for those you disagree with. They're perfectly fine with using the hammer of the state to punish "immoral behavior." Though how many would look a friend in the eye and say, "if you offend my sensibilities, I want you to be thrown in jail?" Hopefully few.
