So he can leave the embassy now?
- jackvalentine 9y agoI'm guessing this doesn't absolve him of the offence of "skipping bail" or whatever it is the Brits will arrest him for.
- robhu 9y agoYou're right, he is guilty of skipping bail, of which the maximum penalty is 12 months in prison. See: http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/a_to_c/bail/#a19 http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/a_to_c/bail/#a19
- H4CK3RM4N 9y agoHe can't be extradited to Sweden now if he leaves. I wouldn't be surprised if the US attempted to pursue him directly on some other charge. Before something else comes up, he could get on a plane somewhere now though safely enough though.
- robhu 9y agoNo, he was on bail when he went in to the embassy, and the maximum penalty (in a Crown court) for skipping bail in the UK is 12 months (which I imagine he would get). See: http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/a_to_c/bail/#a19 http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/a_to_c/bail/#a19
- boomskats 9y agoI think he still faces extradition to the US. This Guardian from a few days ago explains the situation quite well: https://www.theguardian.com/media/2017/apr/21/us-wants-to-arrest-julian-assange-but-uk-suggests-sweden-comes-first https://www.theguardian.com/media/2017/apr/21/us-wants-to-ar...
