I don't think we're really the audience for these conferences, though.
This is to generate hype for the company, and to encourage people to buy google's products. Pretty much everything on here so far has been consumer-targeted.
- davesque 9y agoThat's kinda my point though. Are there really any non-developers watching this? I don't feel like there are probably many consumers watching since Google just doesn't have the rock-star power that Apple does. Maybe there are tech journalists watching or other similar industry figures, but I don't feel like this presentational style is actually required, on a psychological level, to engage with people like that. In truth, I guess I just enjoy poking fun at the circus of American big-business culture.
- blhack 9y agoThere are currently over 100,000 people watching this, and it is the number one trending thing on youtube.com I think google has more of the rockstar status than apple does, or even ever did.
- davesque 9y agoI'm not sure those two facts unequivocally prove your point.
- agildehaus 9y agoOccasionally the media will pick out a couple short segments from these and broadcast them. I think that's the audience. Also these keynote things are just cheap facsimiles of Stevenotes. Apple's own keynotes have started to slide down to this level of without him.
- jldugger 9y agoIt's more to influence journalist to couch their features in human-relatable terms. It's about showing off specific, widely applicable use cases. 'Google launches another photo sharing service' vs 'Google launches Pics, parents can send grandma physical photo albums of their grandkids.'
