"Mackintosh (remember them? usually for pie)." No "k" in Macintosh, but this is a weird statement to me. Macs are very popular in Canada and virtually every grocery store that I've been in carries them (in Ontario anyways). They can be really excellent fresh off the tree but are generally a fair to middling apple in my opinion.
