"Stone explained that his top focus will be guiding company culture.
'It’s important that everyone understands the whole story of Twitter and each of our roles in that story. I’ll shape the experience internally so it’s also felt outside the company.' – Biz Stone
Of the things twitter needs - strategy? product direction? revenue? - is "guiding the company culture" really that high on the list?
- gfosco 9y agoAlso known as rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Unless by 'guiding' he means completely changing directions and gutting Stock Based Compensation for Sales which isn't working, and eliminating the censorship culture they're pioneering.
- denzil_correa 9y agoCulture could be a broad term, think something similar to Netflix's "Culture of Excellence" [0] [0] https://www.slideshare.net/reed2001/culture-1798664 https://www.slideshare.net/reed2001/culture-1798664
- ProAm 9y ago> Of the things twitter needs - strategy? product direction? revenue? - is "guiding the company culture" really that high on the list? This is very typical in dying large companies, you bring back the old guard to try and save the day. Rarely works, but at least it's an attempt.

- setpatchaddress 9y agoNonsense. NeXT had largely failed in the marketplace. The best the NeXT people could do without Steve at the helm was Rhapsody, which Steve hated. And Jony Ive worked for Apple, not NeXT. That said, I fail to see what unique vision either Twitter founder brings to the party.
- itbeho 9y agoCulture? His description sounds more like a cluster fuck of ego in the making.
- marrone12 9y agoI think creating a healthy company culture is a necessary foundation before any of those other things can have a good effect.
- batmansmk 9y agoSometimes a company only misses the right manager to make employees solutions bloom. Or gather who can do things that matter.
- beambot 9y agoYou named three things (strategy, product, revenue) -- deciding the priority of those three at any given moment, communicating that, and aligning the company around it is literally culture. You just identified his role.
