Try running that 256kbit MP3 through a pitch shifter. The quality loss becomes very apparent very quickly.
- jrimbault 9y ago"Try playing a random binary blob as a video file, it might play, it might not" Mp3 is a clever compression algorithm made for consumption. It isn't intended to be pitch shifted...
- lightedman 9y agoFLAC claims to be lossless/archival yet the same artifacting appears when pitch-shifted.
- qb45 9y agoListening through a pitch shifter is wrong, unless you are evaluating the codec for the purpose of listening through a pitch shifter. That's the thing - in normal use, high bitrate MP3 still sounds "the same enough" a lot of the time.
