The alternative for these gig jobs is often to them yourself. House cleaning, furniture assembly, truck loading, tidying, repainting... Hiring help for these services clearly increases human interaction.
- aerodeck 9y agoordering someone around != meaningful interaction.
- WalterSear 9y agoIn terms of what this article considers to be meaningful interactions, it definitely is.
- Qwertious 9y agoGetting a person at a till to scan stuff you buy != meaningful interaction. We could redefine "meaningful interaction" in a way that reinforces the "technology is destroying meaningful interpersonal interaction" narrative, if you'd like?
- exclusiv 9y agoExactly. I used Task Rabbit to help me move and it was a great experience. I bought the guy BBQ too and we ate food together on my patio. He was a nice guy who had a full-time job but did moving on the weekends for extra money. Contrast that with hiring a moving company - bad experience, poor interaction, less accountability, full-time employees trying to rush to get to the next job, etc.
