I would much rather trust a regularly-changing collection of my fellow citizens, who we've all voted on on some regular basis, to put together laws that reflect our will. Trusting a wealthy company or individual to keep giving a hand-out? Nope, no interest in begging for scraps. I prefer the self-determination of a government by the people, for the people, etc.
