I have a 2008 MBP and everything runs great on it, except web browsers, which is sort of funny, tragic, and annoying all at once.

- eloisant 9y agoIt's not because of web browsers, it's because web applications of 2017 are much more advanced (and resource-consuming) than web applications of 2008.
- Mister_Snuggles 9y agouMatrix[0] is a fantastic way to get more performance out of old computers. I have a low-end laptop that I use for travel - a ThinkPad x131e running OpenSuSE. uMatrix makes the difference between a machine that's unusable for web browsing and one that's actually fast. However, it is kind of a pain to figure out what pieces need to be allowed for a site to work and what are superfluous. Once you get it nailed down though, you can just press the lock icon to make it remember your selections. [0] https://github.com/gorhill/uMatrix https://github.com/gorhill/uMatrix
- ianai 9y agoThe web apps of 2017 may be more advanced, but I don't see value added through that complexity.
- criddell 9y agoMaybe the value is on the developer side of the equation. More layers of abstraction might enable faster development cycles or more advanced features at the cost of resource consumption.
