- agd 9y agoGenerally europe has much better maternity/paternity leave than the US. In the UK you get 39 paid weeks of maternity leave. The first 6 are at 90% of your salary, the rest is much lower (depending on your salary) but you still get paid each week.
- cyphunk 9y agoIn DE it's something like 4+ months for each parent and one parent can gift their time to the other. It does not depend on the insurance of the company or some silliness like this. However, if you are self employeed you do not get this. Also on top parents get some 100+ eu a month per child regardless of employement, for X number of years. - bshimmin 9y agoStatutory Maternity Leave in the UK is 52 weeks (you don't have to take it, of course). Statutory Maternity Pay is 39 weeks, with the first six at 90% of your average weekly salary, and the rest at £140 a week (or 90% again if that's less). Details here: https://www.gov.uk/maternity-pay-leave https://www.gov.uk/maternity-pay-leave The UK is one of the worst countries in Europe for this, though still substantially better than the US.
