Without stating a position on this issue, it should be noted that the modern American notion of free speech absolutionism has, because of US cultural influence, become widespread in much of the world.
- emodendroket 9y agoIs it really though? I read the London Review of Books regularly and I distinctly remember reading an author of an essay blithely assert "nobody really believes there should truly be free speech even in cases like hate speech" and move on without bothering to offer any arguments.
