For me it is a side project (got payed from my company to create it), for more than 1 year i could do some support, but since than i work fulltime on other projects. In my (less) free time i watch for issues and PR, but if somebody could be payed for doing this, i had no problem with that. For famous projects it is not a huge problem to find free maintainer and contributors, but for smaller projects it is a problem. I did not know if paying a contributor would help, but i think it's worth a try. I can imagine, that there are some developers that could work fulltime for many small projects and earn money.
