If you've lived through this the post is really funny. We've all had someone clear their throat when taking you through a new codebase and be like 'yeah, the configuration language kind of became self aware'. Organizations aren't equipped to evaluate the costs of complexity and our software tooling isn't strong enough (yet) to tweak old design decisions to make room for changes.
