Interestingly, I feel like this situation has some advantages over "non-shitty" work. The pros you mentioned are cool, it's nice to know tomorrow's meal is not at risk, and that's certainly not the kind of worry I want to have again. But there's another hidden message in there. Monopolies with old tech, and no vision are industries potentially ripe for disruption. I bet if you look hard enough, you might find a need that translates into a start up.
