Many of the traits that make a person ambitious make a person bad at child rearing.
A moderately successful man will look usually for a woman that can do what he can't, he won't look for something redundant.
What is the point of a marriage with two people that work late? If they have kids, who will raise them?
- scarface74 9y agoThat's a great explanation. After we got married, my wife and I tried to both hold demanding jobs. She had been a single mother so she had to work a job that made enough to support her household. That didn't work for our marriage or our children. She took a lower paying job in education that she enjoys, with great health insurance that allowed her to have the same schedule as our children. That allowed me to focus on work, taking great jobs with no benefits (contracting), and it was best for the whole family. If her passion hadn't been around working with kids and she had been a job that required her to work long hours, I don't see how we could have managed. It was a win/win decision. We both got to have fulfilling jobs we enjoyed. I've also seen it go the other way, especially in tech. Where the wife had a demanding job where she had to travel a lot and the husband was a developer who made sure he had a job where he could work from home when he needed to.
