- dep_b 10y agoWhat's so left-wing about Macron in your opinion?
- badlucklottery 10y agoI don't think anyone said he was. His whole platform seems to be as centrist as possible.
- nextstep 10y agoHe was a member of the Socialist Party (PS) until he pivoted more centrist in 2009.
- dep_b 10y agoNow he's going to liberate 150.000 government workers of their jobs to bring down mass unemployment. Doesn't sound really logical if I put it down like that but that's what it comes down to. Reminds me of Macri in Argentina. Probably just as ineffective.
- mhh__ 10y agoHe's left-wing, but not that kind of left winger (socialist) a la Corbyn.
- aaronbrethorst 10y agoWas your comment intended to be sarcastic?
- hvass 10y agoWhat do you think?
- aaronbrethorst 10y agoI certainly hope it was intended to be sarcastic, but—sans an explicit callout—it can be very difficult to tell if someone meant a comment to be such.
- kome 10y agowell, he is a right wing candidate. Not as right wing as Le Pen, but that doesn't make him left wing.
- lucasmullens 10y agoIs there an objective, global "right wing" and "left wing", is this relative to France? Compared to the US most European politicians seem pretty left.
- TillE 10y agoIt's really not a one-dimensional line. Compare the Democrats to Germany's center-right CDU/CSU, for example. The Democrats are well to their left on most social issues, but mostly to the right on economics. Macron is probably best defined as a neoliberal, a somewhat coarse-grained label which is nonetheless fairly well understood globally. Despite his previous party affiliation, he is not any flavor of socialist.
- linkregister 10y agoIt's relative to France. Globally, "left wing" and "right wing" would probably have little overlap: the left-wing Venezuelan leadership is authoritarian and pro-social services, the right-wing Le Pen is... authoritarian and pro-social services.
- threeseed 10y agoMacron is closer to a centrist. He is economically a bit more to the right. And socially a bit more to the left. He supports immigration. He is giving 18 years a culture pass and is spending more on education.
- dglass 10y agoactually, Trump doesn't use email. He believes phone calls are more efficient if I remember correctly. A big part of his days were always spend on the phone.
- cm2187 10y agoHe is also of a generation from which most people barely use emails. It is more his usage of twitter which is surprising.
- hackuser 10y ago> He is also of a generation from which most people barely use emails This does not match my experience at all. Most people I know of his generation use email heavily.
- cm2187 10y agoMost 70 something people I know barely use emails if any, using interchangeably the terms email and website, and barely understand them. Highly educated people.
