I don't think it's so black and white. I live in a very urban area, but I spend at least 50 days each year in relatively Urban -- though still in the north-east. I don't have much experience with the southern rural culture, and maybe that's really what you're addressing, but I feel it's as part of your post implies: everything is on a spectrum.
