As someone who is already in Amazon and moved teams, I recommend you to keep your interviewing skills sharp, specially if you see that the project you're working on is going nowhere and might be cancelled. You wanna be ready to interview so that you don't get moved to a random team. I was in that situation and it really sucks. I had to start over getting used to interviewing, failing 2 or 3 interviews before I landed a job with another team. A really complicated time for me.
- blazespin 9y agoAgreed, some teams at amazon are hire/fire fast. Not all but some. Keep going to interviews, even if you are only mildly interested. Keep your skills sharp. Enjoy the interviews. Make sure the companies pay for everything.
- bkovacev 9y agoI'm not sure if I understood this correctly - you had to interview for another team within the company, even though you've already went through that same process once? If true, that's ridiculous.
- mikestew 9y agoHell, it's what Microsoft was doing fifteen years ago, and I have no reason to think it has changed. Change teams? You have to go through the same loop and same hazing as a new-hire candidate. There might be a little less paperwork, I don't recall.
- therealdrag0 9y agoYep. I had a friend at Microsoft go through this a couple months ago.
- naitoon 9y agoThat's right. You need to interview with the team you want to move to. I don't think it's ridiculous. After all, different teams may have different hiring bars and specific skills you have to be proficient on.
- ec109685 9y agoThey subject folks transitioning between the teams to the same level of interview scruitiny?
- naitoon 9y agoIt really depends on the team. But yeah, you have to go through a hiring loop with the team you're moving to. Some teams can have harder interviews than others. I can confirm that first hand.
