having fairly recently redeployed a MUD I worked on in the early 90's (telnet mud.legitimatesounding.com 4000 - https://github.com/JerrySievert/SillyMUD https://github.com/JerrySievert/SillyMUD), I can't agree more. I spent many hours fixing compile issues, memory problems that should have taken it down in the early 90's but didn't seem to matter at the time, and moving it to a modern socket API. I was quite surprised how much things had changed in 25 years.
