I'm re-reading a bunch of Asimov robot stories that I read as a child, and in them there is no concept of superintelligence at all. Robots have human-level intelligence, but there is no suggestion that they have a possibility of becoming anything other than useful tools for people. I blame Iain M. Banks for all the AGI kerfuffle
