The power of minikube definitely comes from being able to use the same k8s manifests for production and development. We use helm which allows us to simply change a few settings in the production manifest so it fits development better. To install the otherwise production made manifests (called charts in helm speak) into minikube is simply 'helm install chart -f chart/dev.values.yaml'.
