Another alternative is to have realistic staging environment and proxy normal local process into it. Gives you local development and all the (runtime) dependencies you need. I've built something like that for Kubernetes (http://telepresence.io http://telepresence.io) but it could be extended beyond Kubernetes, or you can build your own.
