I was thinking about this, but I don't really think it's a good argument. Most Apple devices can already be securely erased, many laptops can easily have hard drives removed. I think the argument only works for totally non-functional iPhones/tablets where flash recovery might be possible, but it's not possible to run the secure erase procedure.
