"hosted by" is a bit misleading. If things are as they were, it's easy for students to request foo.mit.edu. Looking at http://web.mit.edu/maps/networks/mit/mit-topology.pdf http://web.mit.edu/maps/networks/mit/mit-topology.pdf, 18.244 is E2 (Senior House).

- ezyang 16y ago"Hosted by" as in "lives on the 18...* network", sure.
- cdawzrd 16y agoTo clarify this, (and yes, it still works this way), any student can request foo.mit.edu for their personal box (and bar.mit.edu for their other personal box, and so on). It's an automated system and there is usually not any moderation of hostname requests unless they would conflict with an existing MIT department.
- _pius 16y agoThis is a very Senior House sort of thing to put up. :P
- ladyada 16y agopretty sure it's andrew 'zoz' brooks' server - probably now hosted by someone else since he's graduated
