(It's less that $400k at current exchange rates, and arguably even that overstates the purchasing power). not exactly a "modest family home" in most of the US outside of a few overpriced metro areas like SV. It'll go a long way in the housing market of much of the UK, too. Just not the "overpriced metro areas" (where, sadly, a lot of the software jobs seem to end up...)
