A friend of mine and I run a podcast hosting service called Podigee (https://www.podigee.com https://www.podigee.com). Recently, we launched a machine transcription service using Auphonic and the Google Speech Recognition API for our paid customers.
So far the response has been great. The transcripts are far from perfect, yet they are good enough to benefit from better SEO. Some of our customers take the output and fix the wrong transcriptions, which still allows you to save a lot of time, as compared to human transcription.
I know that I'm heavily biased, but I can't understand how so many people still choose services like SoundCloud to host their podcasts. Their offering is not optimized for podcasts, nor is it their priority.
Podcasting, as a medium, is quickly evolving and getting enriched with structured metadata. E.g you just need to see the great job the Podlove community (https://podlove.org https://podlove.org) is doing proposing new standards and feed extensions.
I suggest that people who are serious about podcasting start looking for better alternatives than SoundCloud or YouTube, to avoid missing out on many great features.
