How would Google Calendar know the event is at 4pm in California? Is the location field filled with enough information? If not, that seems like almost as much work as entering the timezone.
This did happen to me with daylight saving a while back so I do sympathize.
- tromp 9y agoThe article suggests: assume that “4pm” means “4pm in whatever time zone we find ourselves in when the appointed day arrives.”
- Terr_ 9y agoUnfortunately that's not a safe assumption either: Suppose the user is scheduling a phone call to reach someone who is back home at the location they haven't left yet. Alternately, suppose the user changes their destination to another country in another timezone: Does the phone call get rescheduled to another absolute time?

- dragonwriter 9y agoWhat if you are travelling across time zones (or, for times that it would matter, experiencing a DST transition—or, for extra fun, doing both) on that day? (Also, the date it also time zone dependent, so...)
- user5994461 9y agoThen you are aware that the time changes and you already have to adjust your watch/pc/alarm clock.
- eridius 9y agoIt's called "floating" time. It means ignore the time zone completely and just display it as 4pm always. Alerts and whatnot would be based on your computer's current time zone, so if your computer is in PDT, it would display the alert at 4pm PDT, but if you set your computer to EST it would display it at 4pm EST instead.
- bsimpson 9y agoI only enter locations in events for places that aren't where I'm already going to be. If I'm in the NY office, I don't bother to put NY in my reminders/events. Moreover, meetings across offices may have rooms booked in many locations; how do you know which is for whom? If I want to book a meeting for next week, and I'll be in NY, but I'm in SF now and someone from SF is dialing in, how does it know which time zone to use?
