Ask HN: Your approach to security on the Mac
Other than running only signed apps, using a password manager, running regular updates & using a firewall, how do you secure a Mac?
I'm not a fan of running active AV protection, but would run regular scans.

- sayelt 9y agoWhat security are you talking about? Proprietary software gives you zero security against its owner/developer. FLOSS is the only way we can have real security.
- runjake 9y agoWhile I appreciate the sentiment and even wish it were true, I don't think reality supports your positions.
- sayelt 9y agoBullshit. Explain how it's not true.

- sayelt 9y agoCensoring/deleting my comments also eh? Of course these rules only apply to the users and not the admins, right? Hypocrites, assholes.
- sayelt 9y agoA lot of Apple fanboys getting butthurt about my comment and downvoting me from what I can see. Tell me how I'm wrong or fuck off.
- spcelzrd 9y agoI've been running stock Mac OS for almost 10 years now. MacBook Pro at home and at work. I haven't had any viruses, malware, or ransomware. That's just my experience and doesn't mean this is a safe configuration. Mostly, security these days is securing your cloud accounts. I use two factor authentication on my Apple, Google, and DropBox accounts. I use Firefox as my primary browser. It's configured to delete all cookies and browsing history when I restart.
