One quibble that I didn't see addressed but possibly overlooked: who chooses who is considered a scientist worthy of getting the initial block of $$ in the first place? There will still need to be an application for that status at some point.
- jcoffland 10y agoThis is more than a quibble. It's a gaping hole in the idea.
- sideshowb 10y agoYes, or put another way, supposing we solve that problem, what do we do about granting said status to new scientists? Is it a one in, one out policy?
- jabl 10y agoI was wondering the same. In https://arxiv.org/pdf/1304.1067.pdf https://arxiv.org/pdf/1304.1067.pdf they say "chosen according to some criteria like academic appointment status or recent research productivity".
