Though I've never seen the Accumulator referred to as the "A register"...
LDA #$c0 ;Load the hex value $c0 into the A register
- tyingq 9y agoIt is referred to that way in old datasheets: http://imgur.com/a/GlDiz http://imgur.com/a/GlDiz
- tyingq 9y agoInteresting blog post that explains why one of the GP registers (EAX/RAX) in x86/x64 is also referred to as an accumulator: http://noeffclue.blogspot.com/2016/02/the-accumulator-register.html?m=1 http://noeffclue.blogspot.com/2016/02/the-accumulator-regist...
- dep_b 9y agoI remember doing an assembler class where you needed to load something in A and B before you were able to perform an operation on it.
- ddingus 9y agoOlder docs made this reference. I see someone else noted it too. In my peer group back then, it was "load A" for LDA, not "load accumulator"
- pcwalton 9y agoSometimes A appears explicitly in the syntax of the INC instruction, depending on the assembler.
