Alternatively, you can use ZSH and not lose history, even better, have history work simultaneously in multiple terminal windows simultaneously without closing the window to save/read the history of other windows. http://ohmyz.sh/ http://ohmyz.sh/
- jcsalterego 10y agoI think it's more about the MacOS's add-ons to bash here than bash vs zsh -- but who knows!
- justin66 10y agoIs the stuff you linked to needed to realize those benefits in zsh?
- rryan 10y agoNo, just put the following in ~/.zshrc: # share history among terminals setopt share_history # append to the history instead of overwriting setopt append_history # append to history incrementally instead of when the shell exits setopt inc_append_history Look ma, no more lost history!
- zanchey 10y agoHere's a nickel, kid.
- rryan 10y agoThis is one of zsh's many killer features. Years of accumulated shell history with backsearch-by-regex saves me so much time.
