My junior year of college I lived with a guy roommate of mine, and we both always put the toilet seat down even though there were no girls living there (and rarely visiting). We also showered and kept the house clean. It's really not that hard and should have nothing to do with gender. As for the toilet seat, I put both the seat and the lid down. I just think it looks better that way.
