I would acutally pay Spotify extra money if they brought back the old, snappy, pre-Electron version of their Windows desktop app.
<edit>They replaced it with something that is simply too heavy to manage larger playlists (except maybe on the max-spec MBPs it's being coded on) just because they could iterate more quickly on some non-essential features which they might have packed inside a WebView, leaving essential features intact and responsive.</edit>
- matthewmacleod 10y agoSeconded for the Mac app. The current experience is shameful.
- enobrev 10y agoI have no opinion about their app on those platforms, but as an Ubuntu user, I very much appreciate their electron app.
- nojvek 10y agoYes, the big companies really don't give a fuck about Linux because it's user share is tiny for the desktop. The fact that a Microsoft editor works on Linux is amazing. Underlying thanks to Electron.
- tommoor 10y agoThe Spotify app is not built on Electron - it's built on CEF and always has been, author was wrong.
- tcoff91 10y agoSpotify was not always based on Chrome -- the first version came out only a month after Chrome itself first was released.
