- nickpsecurity 10y agoIt's a tangent but I'm all for calling out hipocracy. Author should've used Creative Commons or public domain.
- icebraining 10y agoIt's not hypocrisy. Defending an overall elimination of IP is not the same as supporting individual self-abnegation. Self-sacrifice that doesn't lead to the desired goal is just masochism.
- nickpsecurity 10y agoThat wouldn't apply here since the goal was to spread an idea but that copyright made spreading it illegal without a license. Modifying to Creative Commons aids the goal plus is cconsistent with stated principles. So, it's the best move. Fortunately, the author agrees and intends to change the license.
- TaylorAlexander 10y agoI just mentioned above (after your comment) that it's just an oversight. That text was built in to the Ghost template I used and I never bothered to change it. But I absolutely will change it to Creative Commons next time I make updates to the site.
- nickpsecurity 10y agoGreat! Glad it was just an oversight. Creative Commons also has helpful descriptions on their website to simplify picking your preferred license. Will make it easier.
- goodplay 10y agoNot the author, but I similarly support eliminating (well, severely limiting) intellectual property protections and make use copyright at the same time (GPL term enforcement). With current laws, it's one reasonable way to get close to my ideals. It's the same reason why the Apache 2.0 license is against the friction caused patents by acknowledging them and addressing the issues they raise. It's using ip law against itself (although I can't really speak for the author in this specific case).
- cookiecaper 10y agoYes, the FSF has long warned that weakening copyright may also weaken or endanger copyleft.
- TaylorAlexander 10y agoGood call. That was built in to the Ghost template I am using and I never changed it. I've been meaning to update some things on my site so I will relicense as Creative Commons. Thanks for pointing that out!
